[...] Part II While the basic format of an SCCA school has not changed since I attended my first one more than 25 years ago, they have added some features. Each student is required to have at least one crewmember since all of the driver’s time is pretty much accounted for during the weekend. Someone has to keep the car. I really looked forward to getting back to the grassroots of the sport. [...]

I can't agree more. The car is awesome. I was on the race track with a few of them, but have never even taken a ride in one. I have been in a real GT40, but no Ford GT.... yet....

This is such a sad event. I really love the GT though I can't still afford one. Sad to know before I can even be half way to acquiring one of these, production already ceased. The GT will surely be missed.

With that said, I like Carl Edwards (my bias is showing through) but I think he should have been parked for a few races with what he did WHILE he was on probation.

I can agree with all of what you say. With racing incidents, it becomes a very tough call. The really tough thing is that everyone has some sort of bais going into anything. They become judgement calls. When you have judgement calls deciding races, then racing becomes nothing better than Olympic Diving or Figure Skating, both examples of what some judge thinks, in the case of diving, they have about a half a second to decide.

I guess I needed to emphasize that point. I also agree with you about Carl Edwards' antics on the race track after the race. Same thing with spinning Tony Stewart at Pocono. There were pit crews on pit lane, who focus intently on what they are doing, and somehow managed to block out everything happening a few feet behind them on the cars entering and exiting pit lane. Pocon has a HUGE pit lane. The same thing at Martinsville could have been a disaster, but intentionally spinning a car on ANY pit lane is unbelieveably dangerous.

your observation and thought's correct, however maybe slight from NASCAR's intent.
Dale Jr's move was maybe to tap Carl to get him going forward, maybe not. They're all racing to win.
However and as you mention, Carl makes not one mistake with his revenge, but many.
His actions could well have torn off Dale Jr's arm hanging out the window, his going into the victory
circle with team sponcer's and new's media to show his displeasure, his grabbing Jr by the chest and
making verbal treats ? ALL the wrong decisions, all in the heat of the moment. And even more action in
Jr's garage later on was what got Carl his suspension is how I view it, how NASCAR viewed it as well.

I'll have to check that out.

Yeah, it seems that all sports are becoming more dictated by the almighty dollar and thus advertising. This can obviosuly cause problems and conflicts of interest. Imagine just the driver's name on their suit, seems strange today. It seems soccer is about the only commercial-free sport these days. Oh well.

I watched the move Grand Prix last night on DVD (well worth getting in my opinion). What struck me about it was the total lack of advertising in Formula One at that time. None of the cars had anything other than a badge on the nose. The driver's suits were white with their name embroidered on them.

NASCAR at the time was really not far from that. Now we have gone to where the TV fees are so high that fans complain weekly about the number of commercials on the broadcast.
